Hi Families! We have had a great first week of school! It has been great getting to know all of the students in the class. We are off to a great start. Here is a summary of what we are working on in each subject and some important events coming up. Crew - In class, we are working on setting norms to create a great and safe classroom environment. Our norms are based on our school habits of character. Norms can include everything from behaviors, academics, perseverance etc. I highly encourage you to ask your student what the classroom norms are in the class and even brainstorm some new ideas. During the day, we have our togetherness time in which students play games and activities that help build trust and friendships with one another. Academics- We have started our year with a readiness test in math to help us understand your child as a mathematician. Week 3 Newsletter
Hi Families! We are well into 3rd grade now and having a ton of fun! Here is a summary of what we are up to in class next week. Crew - We are continuing our work on building a great classroom culture. This week we have been working on what it means to be an active listener. On Wellness Wednesday we also read an article about the long term benefits to spending time outside. Feel free to use it as motivation to get them out to play! I-ready testing- We are continuing our I-Ready testing into next week. We have been working on these tests in smaller chunks so that students can give focus on their very best work. Students will be working to finish their reading test and will be transitioning to their math test. Reading / Writing - In class we read a powerful book called Nasreen's Secret School. Week 5 Newsletter
Hi Families! We are now well into 3rd grade and it is going great! We had an awesome week of learning. Here is what we were up to this week. As always, we encourage you to talk about this week with your student. I-ready testing- We are very close to finishing iReady! As soon as all 3rd grade students have finished iReady, we will send out scores to families. Reading / Writing - In reading this week, our students began to travel the world to investigate how children receive books in different and unique ways. Through this, we have practiced main idea with supporting details, identifying problems and solutions and discuss the different between literal and figurative language. I highly encourage you to ask your student how children receive books around the world, it is fascinating. Expedition - Next week, we will begin discussing the difference between continents and countries.
