Week 5 Newsletter

Hi Families!

We are now well into 3rd grade and it is going great! We had an awesome week of learning. Here is what we were up to this week. As always, we encourage you to talk about this week with your student.

I-ready testing- We are very close to finishing iReady! As soon as all 3rd grade students have finished iReady, we will send out scores to families.

Reading / Writing - In reading this week, our students began to travel the world to investigate how children receive books in different and unique ways. Through this, we have practiced main idea with supporting details, identifying problems and solutions and discuss the different between literal and figurative language. I highly encourage you to ask your student how children receive books around the world, it is fascinating.

Expedition - Next week, we will begin discussing the difference between continents and countries. I ask if you could please discuss with your student about the difference to give them early background knowledge on the topic.

All Block - In class, we have been practicing RAP to help us in our writing. When a question is asked in writing, students are expected to Repeat the question, Answer the question and Prove your answer. This is a strategy we are using to prepare students for longer essays in the near future.

Math - We have been finishing our 2nd unit, reviewed for the test as a class and started our tests. When all students are done, I will send home the test to have parents look it over and review any questions with your student.
