Our First Read Aloud

Today, all three classes began a journey with Amber, Justin, her best friend, and her third grade class to China. We practiced writing predictions and our reasons for making them.

Week 5 Newsletter

Hi Families! We are now well into 3rd grade and it is going great! We had an awesome week of learning. Here is what we were up to this week. As always, we encourage you to talk about this week with your student. I-ready testing- We are very close to finishing iReady! As soon as all 3rd grade students have finished iReady, we will send out scores to families.   Reading / Writing - In reading this week, our students began to travel the world to investigate how children receive books in different and unique ways. Reader's Workshop Update

Last week we began work on character traits as we read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory during read aloud. This week we are continuing to work on identifying character traits in our reading and explain how we know using evidence from the book. We are also starting to work on inferencing. This is the idea that sometimes you have to read between the lines to create deeper meaning in the story. We are having a blast digging deep into this work!

Week 3 Newsletter

  Hi Families!  We are well into 3rd grade now and having a ton of fun! Here is a summary of what we are up to in class next week.  Crew - We are continuing our work on building a great classroom culture. This week we have been working on what it means to be an active listener. On Wellness Wednesday we also read an article about the long term benefits to spending time outside. Feel free to use it as motivation to get them out to play!  I-ready testing- We are continuing our I-Ready testing into next week. We have been working on these tests in smaller chunks so that students can give focus on their very best work. Students will be working to finish their reading test and will be transitioning to their math test.   Reading / Writing - In class we read a powerful book called Nasreen's Secret School.
