Today, all three classes began a journey with Amber, Justin, her best friend, and her third grade class to China. We practiced writing predictions and our reasons for making them.

Hi Families! We have had a great first week of school! It has been great getting to know all of the students in the class. We are off to a great start. Here is a summary of what we are working on in each subject and some important events coming up. Crew - In class, we are working on setting norms to create a great and safe classroom environment. Our norms are based on our school habits of character. Norms can include everything from behaviors, academics, perseverance etc. I highly encourage you to ask your student what the classroom norms are in the class and even brainstorm some new ideas. During the day, we have our togetherness time in which students play games and activities that help build trust and friendships with one another. Academics- We have started our year with a readiness test in math to help us understand your child as a mathematician. Hi Families! We had a lot of fun this week in class. Students were challenged in all subjects and really persevered, found strengths and areas of growth as well. I-Ready Results - We will be sending home their iReady results with them today. Reading / Writing - Students are finishing up the second unit of our first module. This week, we discussed how people in different countries overcame learning challenges. We also learned about the geographical features of these countries, which tied in our current geography unit. Next week, students will be writing a cumulative report telling about what they learned. We will work our way through the writing process as we go. Expedition - This week we began our geography unit. The students learned about some of the continents and what their geographical and cultural features are. We will continue to work on the same thing next week and also learn about the oceans. Hi Families! Kids are in full swing of 3rd grade! We first want to thank you all for the incredible support we have received to get this school year off to a great start. Here is what we are up to in 3rd grade. Crew - We have been working in crew on how to use self talk to help yourself stay motivated and on task. We also worked on creating a flag for field day! I-ready testing- We are almost done with our I-Ready testing! This week we have focused on finishing our reading and switching over to math. One more week and we should be complete! Reading / Writing - We have continued our books study on Nasreen's Secret School . We looked at the lesson and moral this week and how to use details from the story to back up your thinking. The students then put all of this together to write a paragraph. Using an EL model, we learned how to peer critique and practiced using this to make improvements to our own writing pieces.
